MISSISSIPPI RIVER CRUISE

In March 2017 we took a paddle wheeler from New Orleans to Memphis – visiting the Rosedown Plantation, Natchez, Vicksburg (Civil War battlefields), and a cotton plantation.

Queen of the Mississippi

It was very interesting to just sit on the balcony and watch the immense boat traffic on the Mississippi. In Memphis we did the obligatory visit to Graceland (totally over run with tourists) and the MLK museum (totally worth seeing).

Trip to Maui

In February, Gesa & I spent 5 days on Maui. We didn’t rent a car this time, but ‘Ubered’ everything – which turned out to be cheaper than renting a car.  We met some very interesting drivers, including a photographer who is creating a photo documentary ‘The Hawaiians’

We stayed at the Andaz Hotel in Wailea (formerly called  Stouffers).  The property was vacant for several years during and after the 2008 financial crisis. The management did an ‘over the top’ remodeling job and the majority of the guests now are young, rich dot-com couples who vacation there with their children who have their own nanny.
